Lost Your Phone in Dubai? Here's How to Find It

Every Minute Counts
Dubai is one of the busiest cities in the world. Millions of people move through malls, metro stations, taxis, and restaurants every single day. Losing your phone here can feel overwhelming, but the truth is that Dubai has one of the highest recovery rates for lost items thanks to strong community values and digital tools that make finding lost phones easier than ever.
This guide covers exactly what to do from the moment you realise your phone is missing.
Step 1: Track Your Phone Immediately
The first thing you should do is try to locate your phone using its built-in tracking feature. Every modern phone has one.
For iPhone users:
Open Find My iPhone from any browser or another Apple device. Sign in with your Apple ID and you will see your phone's last known location on a map. From there you can play a sound, lock the device, or erase it remotely if needed.
For Samsung and Android users:
Go to Find My Device from any browser. Sign in with your Google account to see your phone's location. You can ring it, lock it, or wipe it from here.
Important: If your phone is switched off or the battery has died, these tools will show the last known location. Head to that spot immediately and check with nearby shops, security desks, or information counters.
Step 2: Post It on Foundly
While tracking tools are great, they only work if the phone is still on and connected. For everything else, you need people power.
Create a lost item post on Foundly with these details:
Item type: select your phone model (iPhone, Samsung, etc.)
The exact area where you last had it (be specific — "Costa Coffee, Dubai Mall lower ground floor" works better than just "Dubai Mall")
The time you lost it
Your phone colour and case description
Any distinguishing features like a cracked screen or stickers
You can enable the Sensitive Post option if you want to keep your phone photo private. It will only be shown to verified users during the claim process.
Foundly's smart matching system will automatically scan all found item posts and alert you if someone reports finding a phone that matches yours. Browse found electronics on Foundly to check if someone has already posted it.
Step 3: Contact the Location Directly
If you know where you lost your phone, call them immediately.
Shopping malls — Every major mall in Dubai has a lost and found desk:
Dubai Mall: call the information desk or visit Guest Services on the lower ground floor
Mall of the Emirates: Guest Services near the main entrance
City Centre Deira: information counter on the ground floor
Ibn Battuta Mall: Guest Services near the food court
Dubai Metro and public transport — RTA operates a centralised lost and found service. You can:
Call RTA at 8009090
Visit the RTA lost and found page
Visit the Rashidiya or Union metro stations where lost items are collected
Taxis and ride-hailing — If you left your phone in a taxi, Careem, or Uber:
Careem: open the app, go to your trip history, and tap "I lost an item"
Uber: open the app, go to your trips, select the ride, and tap "I lost an item"
RTA taxi: call 8009090 with your trip details and taxi number if you have it
Hotels and restaurants — Call the front desk or reception directly. Most hotels in Dubai hold found items for 30 to 90 days.
Step 4: File a Police Report
If tracking fails and no one has turned it in, file a lost item report with Dubai Police. You can do this through:
The Dubai Police app (available on iOS and Android)
Visiting your nearest police station in person
You will receive a report number. Keep this — you will need it for insurance claims or if your phone is recovered later.
Step 5: Protect Your Data
While your phone is missing, take these steps immediately to protect your personal information:
Change passwords for your email, banking apps, social media, and any app with saved payment information
Call your mobile carrier (du or Etisalat) to suspend your SIM card temporarily
If you use Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, or Google Pay, deactivate your cards remotely through your bank's app
Enable lost mode on your device through Find My iPhone or Find My Device — this locks the phone and displays a message with your contact number
Where Phones Are Most Commonly Lost in Dubai
Based on hundreds of posts on Foundly, these are the top spots where people lose their phones in Dubai:
Dubai Metro — especially during rush hour at Burjuman, Union, and Mall of the Emirates stations
Shopping malls — Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, and City Centre Deira top the list
Taxis and ride-hailing cars — phones slip between seats and are only noticed after the ride
Restaurants and cafes — left on tables after paying the bill
Gyms — locker rooms and workout benches
Beaches — JBR, Kite Beach, and La Mer
How to Increase Your Chances of Getting Your Phone Back
A few things dramatically improve recovery rates:
Post within the first hour. The faster you post on Foundly, the more likely someone who found it will see your listing before they hand it to a random lost and found counter
Offer a reward. Posts with a reward on Foundly get significantly more attention. Even AED 50 to AED 100 shows you are serious
Be specific in your description. "Black iPhone 15 Pro Max with a clear Spigen case and a small crack on the bottom left" is far more matchable than "lost my phone"
Share your Foundly post on local Facebook groups, WhatsApp community groups, and Reddit (r/dubai)
Check Foundly daily. Someone might post your phone as a found item hours or even days later. Register on Foundly to get instant match notifications
Found Someone's Phone?
If you found a phone in Dubai, the right thing to do is help return it. Post it on Foundly as a found item — it takes less than a minute. You can enable the Sensitive Post option to keep the device photo private until the rightful owner is verified.
You can also hand it over to the nearest police station or the lost and found desk at whatever location you found it. But posting it on Foundly first means the owner can find it faster through our matching system instead of guessing which police station to check.
Prevention Tips for Next Time
Enable Find My iPhone or Find My Device right now if it is not already on
Set up a lock screen message with an alternate contact number
Use a phone case with a lanyard or wrist strap in crowded places
Before leaving any taxi, restaurant, or metro, do a quick pocket check
Register on Foundly now so you are ready if it ever happens again — you will get instant alerts when matching items are posted
